Extending the Season

We put the plastic on the final 3 raised beds today -- just before the forecasted rain/snow tomorrow! We will have carrots, lettuce and broccoli fresh from the beds for Christmas!

Final Friday in the Gardens

The final Friday in the Gardens was a busy one! The 4 who braved the fog and chill completed a mountain of work! The last of the daffodil bulbs were planted in the new shade bed.
They got all the Canna rhizomes cleaned and packed away for the winter.

The brackets and hoops were put on the raised vegetable beds. Next week we will put the plastic over them and fasten them down tightly.

This is the beautiful salad we had as part of our lunch. All
the ingredients came from the garden! Lettuces, carrots, green onions, broccoli and sugar snap peas---YUM!
After lunch we met with our grower and decided what would go in the annual flower beds next year----a busy, fulfilling day of work!

Autumn Harvest

Here's a sample of our fall garden harvest. Our Enabled Gardeners group from Active Day enjoyed the fresh carrots and broccoli from the garden yesterday! After snacking on the crunchies, they made beautiful fall tabletop centerpieces. We always have a great time when they come to the gardens!

More Fall Garden Photos

BEAUTIFUL (and tasty) leaf lettuce!
Some of the colors and textures of the gardens.

David's rose cuttings are doing well. They will stay under glass through the winter, in spring, the rooted ones will then be planted in the rose bed.

This deciduous holly can be seen from Martha Lane Collins Blvd.. It is spectacular this year.

Purple cabbage

November Beauty

Due to unexpectedly warm temperatures during the past week, our vegetables are doing well. We are harvesting lettuce, carrots and green onions. The broccoli and cabbage are coming along nicely.

We have lots of blooms on the peas, but we're not sure we will actually get pea pods---they were a fall experiment!
